When breaking away from the clutches of social media and smartphone entertainment, you really do start to see the effects of long term use.

I used to wake up, grab my phone, turn off the alarm and open one of the many apps to ‘connect’ with the outside world. Who’s been naughty? Who’s been nice? Getting stuck in a doom scrolling loop and realising an hour has gone by is now a thing of the past.

While I wake up, and grab my phone - now its just to turn off the alarm. I look at the news headlines and put my phone down - too much gloom and doom for my liking.

My battery lasts all day again and while my hand still creeps out to grab that apple for no particular reason, I catch myself and stop it.

Why should I want to be entertained by strangers on a small screen? Why can I spend time being entertained with the people I claim to care about? Is this just another way to get humanity to disconnect from each other - living in a stage of perpetual fear bought on by the relentless psychological torment of queued conditioning videos.

No. Its not normal to want to see people via a 6 inch screen rather than in person.

Its abnormal to hurtle your way to death staring at a screen while the beauty of the world fades by.

Not me. I'm looking up.

Disconnecting to reconnect.
