To the one who’s not here today

There’s so many things I wish I could say

How I hope to have seen you come to light

To bring joy and happiness to this eternal night

How I wish I could have seen you grow

And learn about life and all the things I would show

To those moments in life where you took your first step

After watching you enter this world when you took your first breath

To riding a bike and then skinning your knee

To learning the alphabet or counting to three

The wonder on your face seeing stars up above

To growing up and finding out about love

Watching you dress in a suit for the prom

And getting your drivers license is a new freedom

Is hope you meet someone who always makes you smile

And is there for the long haul, a partner for life

Yet I’ll never have the opportunity to see all these things

Because life had other plans while I got distracted

And here I am now wishing the past was all different

So to the one who’s not here today:

I love you.

I’m sorry.

I hope God kept you safe with Him.
